Artwork Description:
ts my second painting with an inscription of a Tirukkural in one of the oldest languages of the world that has survived since 3rd century BCE, Tamil.
Tirukkural is a collection of 1330 couplets or kurals dealing with everyday virtues of an individual; considered one of the greatest works ever written on ethics and morality, it’s known for its universality and non-denominational nature. Authored by Valluvar and dated variously from 300 BCE to 7th century CE! The inscription in this painting is #129 of 1330 couplets. It explains that wounds caused by fire heal over time whereas those caused by our words seldom do.
It belongs to the theme ‘Soliloquy’, which seeks to induce a deep inner dialogue through memories evoked of shared experiences.
